Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama predicted almost 50 percent of Jakartans occupied some forbidden areas, such as riverbank, reservoir, inspection road, and under bridges. “We sure that if every slum areas are removed, citizens of Jakarta will decrease because averagely they are staying there, around 80 percent of Jakarta citizens come from outside the city,” Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said at City Hall, Wednesday (5/28).
Basuki assessed, low cost residence rental has caused newcomers booming. Unluckily, they occupy illegal areas.

Basuki is optimistic if social problems especially related to traffic jam and flood will decrease if the slum residence is controlled.
